Nearly everything people write in about is one of the eight below.

Something is not working

I installed it and nothing happens on the page

Reload the tab. A browser extension cannot reach into pages that were already open when it was installed, so the first tab you try it on almost always needs one refresh. This catches most people once and never again.

It works on YouTube but not on the site I want

That is deliberate. Watch Together only asks for the sites it needs at install, rather than for every site you visit, so anything outside that list is off until you turn it on.

Open the video you want, click the Watch Together icon, and use Enable on this site. Your browser will ask you to confirm. Reload the page and the room will work there. You only do this once per site.

We have drifted apart

Look at the member list first, because it usually tells you why without you having to guess. Someone marked ad break is in an advert you are not seeing. Someone marked buffering has a slow connection.

If everyone reads as watching and you are still apart, press Resync. If one person is consistently a second or two out, open the panel's advanced settings and give that person a sync offset, which shifts only their playback and leaves the rest of the room alone.

Our room died halfway through the film

This was a real bug and it is fixed. Rooms used to be dropped by the host after a period with no messages, which a long quiet stretch of a film could trigger. Rooms now hold themselves open, survive the backend restarting, and fail over to a second backend on their own.

If you are still on an older build, update: open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, and press Update. You want 1.2.0 or later.

The panel disappears in fullscreen

It should move with you. If it does not, press the overlay hotkey, which is Alt and W by default and can be changed in the extension's settings. Going from normal to theatre to fullscreen and back is handled, on YouTube included.

The Zoom or Meet call is fighting the video audio

Start the call from the panel's own Zoom or Meet button rather than separately. Started that way, the call link is shared with the room, anyone arriving late gets it without being sent it again, and the video is ducked so the two are not competing.

Does it work on Firefox?

Yes. There is a Firefox build alongside the Chrome one. Everything except the per-site permission prompt behaves the same, and Firefox asks for permissions in its own way.

Still stuck

Email watch@arnavgoel.dev and it will be read. Say which site you were on, what you expected, and what happened instead. A screenshot of the member list at the moment it went wrong is worth more than any description of it.

If you would rather have it in public, or want to follow the fix, open an issue instead.

What it does with your data

It knows where the playhead is, and the address of the one tab you attached a room to. That is genuinely all. No account, no tracking, nothing you watch is recorded. The full privacy policy spells out each item.
